BOARD LEADERS

The Board Leader Opportunity
at Leading Peers

Leading Peers selects a small number of proven CEOs and founders to build high-performance CEO peer boards. Board Leaders bring executive experience, credibility with fellow CEOs, and the ability to convene trusted CEO peer groups.

The Board Leader Opportunity — At a Glance

Who this role is for
Board Leaders are typically former CEOs or founders who have led significant organizations.

What you build
CEO peer boards of six to eight members from diverse industries who meet regularly in a confidential environment to challenge decisions and strengthen accountability.

How the role grows
Board Leaders begin with one board and expand their practice by launching additional boards. Over time, many Board Leaders steward multiple CEO peer boards across their region – often growing to 4–12 boards.

Why leaders pursue it
The role offers strong recurring income potential while remaining deeply engaged with accomplished CEOs—contributing to their growth and continuing to learn alongside them.

Why CEOs Become Board Leaders

Board Leaders value the opportunity to:

  • Convene accomplished CEOs in a trusted peer environment

  • Mentor leaders facing complex decisions

  • Remain deeply engaged with other leaders

  • Build a long-term platform with recurring income

For many, the role becomes a second chapter of leadership—centered on mentorship and influence among fellow CEOs.

Ideal Board Leaders bring all of the following:

  • Entrepreneurial experience leading companies as CEOs or founders

  • A track record advising, mentoring, or coaching fellow CEOs

  • Ability to build trusted peer relationships among senior leaders

  • Commitment to building durable CEO peer networks

Who This Role Is Not For

This role is not designed for individuals seeking a facilitation role or a traditional coaching practice.

Board Leaders succeed when they approach the role as builders of peer ecosystems, not consultants serving individual clients.

Candidates primarily interested in running workshops or facilitating discussion groups - rather than building peer communities - are unlikely to find this role aligned with their goals.

The opportunity suits leaders motivated to recruit, convene, and steward networks of CEOs over the long term.

How Board Leaders Build Their Practice

CFO.jpeg

Board Leaders recruit and assemble growth-minded CEOs, build and launch structured peer boards, and lead confidential meetings that sharpen decision-making, strengthen accountability, and elevate executive performance.

Successful Board Leaders begin by launching a single board and building it to a strong core of six to eight CEOs, then expand their practice by launching and growing additional boards. Many Board Leaders build a portfolio of 4–12 peer boards, creating a long-term leadership platform and recurring income tied to board performance.

Over time, many Board Leaders become central figures in their regional CEO ecosystem, convening and mentoring dozens of business leaders across multiple industries.

They build durable peer environments that sustain performance—creating enduring relationships among senior leaders.

This opportunity provides strong recurring income potential as boards mature and expand.

Many Board Leaders continue operating coaching, advisory, or investment activities alongside their work at Leading Peers. To preserve the integrity of the ecosystem, all CEO peer boards are led exclusively within the Leading Peers platform.

Area Director

Area Directors expand and steward the Leading Peers presence within a defined region. They recruit, develop, and support Board Leaders while protecting institutional standards across multiple boards.

Most Area Directors are appointed from among the highest-performing Board Leaders who demonstrate exceptional board stewardship and growth. In select expansion markets, Leading Peers may appoint Area Directors directly.

Board Leader Selection Process

Each year, Leading Peers appoints only a limited number of new Board Leaders.

Board Leader roles are filled through a selective process designed to ensure strong alignment with the standards of the Leading Peers ecosystem.

Candidates typically move through several stages:

  • Initial conversation to explore fit with an Area Director

  • Review of leadership experience and community-building approach

  • Final conversation with Leading Peers leadership

The goal is to ensure each Board Leader is well positioned to build and steward a thriving CEO peer ecosystem.
